Helpful Tips

Spring

  • Get an early start on any lawn renovation; establish your lawn before the weeds get an opportunity to "take over".
  • Get the most out of your fertilization program by aeration and de-thatching your lawn this spring.
  • Don't forget to apply your crabgrass pre-emergent.
  • You may have missed planting bulbs this past autumn, but you can still add colorful accents to your gardens. We can install spring floral displays with bulbs grown in greenhouses.
  • Incorporate perennials into your landscape allowing you to reduce the annuals in your gardens, cutting down maintenance, etc.

Summer

  • To have a lush green lawn all season long, you need to be sure to supplement Mother Nature's water with a bit of your own, and you have to use your judgment in doing so…the problem with underground irrigation systems is that most people set them and forget them. Learn how to program your lawn/shrub sprinklers so as we move into the warmer months you can increase the watering time on all or certain zones. Of course, if Mother Nature is doing the watering for you, remember that a reduction in watering time may be required.
  • If your system allows, irrigate turf at longer duration but at longer intervals. For example instead of everyday for 30 minutes, try every other day for 45 minutes. This will save you water, promote deeper root development, and reduce the likelihood of turf disease.
  • To help build a stronger root system in your lawn, raise mower height! Studies show that there is a direct relationship between height of lawn and depth of roots. If your lawn has a deeper root system it will be more drought tolerant.
  • Missed spring planting season? Although nursery stock is somewhat diminished in the summer months, you can still plant successfully in early or mid summer. With the proper irrigation, even these late comers to your landscape will thrive.
